How warm should a N2O noid get?

I doing some work on the car, and just doing a wiring test I clicked on the solenoids a few times. Everythings fine and dandy. Pick the N20 one off the bench a minute or so later, it's noticeably warm to the touch? (took a bit to heat soak in I guess?)

Fuel Noid was still room temperature. Is it just because the N20 magnet is so much bigger? I know it draws considerable more amps. But just wanting to check if the warmth is normal before I put them in the car.

I accidently activated my nitrous solenoid for about 30 seconds when i was installing my system. LOL... The solenoid started smoking and totaly drained my optima yellow top deep cycle battery. So i ordered two new ones. Im not taking any chances. I plan on switching the solenoid out every year or so reguardless of use. A $70 solenoid is a lot cheaper than a new engine. I know the nitrous solenoid draws more amps than the fuel solenoid so that is probably why it feels warmer. Plus the nitrous cools the solenoid. When testing it you shouldnt activate it for more than a few seconds because there is no nitrous to keep it cool.

I wasn't holding it open or anything, just like on off, on off, about 3 times.

Ok well then I'm too not worried, everything else looks great!

I agree, with no n2o flowing it will get hotter quicker than when run with n2o. Best time to check a solenoid is when it has been sitting where ever it's mounted and has the accumulative engine bay heat soak along with bottle at the PSI you run. I did some testing with a heat probe gun under the hood of the Vette and the solenoids will in fact become quite hot (even with no usage). Actually, on some late model EFI cars that run like 220 degrees the under hood temps are pretty high, and this in turn can cause the little weak solenoids not to open. what happens is the combine heat (this becomes high resistance in the electrical) and high pressure can not be overcome by the solenoids weak 3-amp power rating. I have had numerous small noid purge systems become inoperable, but once they were cold they worked fine.

Did some more research, turns out the Iceman solenoid I have is a very high amp draw. I though it was in the teens, but some say it's in the high 20's or 30~! .

So umm yeah that could generate some heat!

That's why I went with the NX stage 6 noids and not the 20+ amp noids from NX. Once we get to a certain point it becomes over kill IMO, and causes the life of the noid to decrease. They are too good, LOL.
