View Full Version : Purge locations?

I've got a purge solenoid coming, and was wondering about locations for the outlet... It seems that the cowl or front of the vehicle are popular placements, but I'd like to make mine less obvious. Would it still work correctly if it was aimed down, under the car? Or does it have to be aimed up to release the gas properly?
it's typically put in a place where you can see the nitrous purging. It won't matter which way it's aimed.

Cool, I wasn't sure if it had to be aimed up for the gas to release right, but come to think of it, if it's got 900+ psi behind it, it'll move wherever it's aimed! It's a tossup for me at this point. Although the purge cloud looks cool, I may opt for the more sleeper look, having it aim somewhere inconspicuous.
EDIT: BTW Nate, your fat-guy av is quite hypnotic... I'm a little worried that it's hard to stop looking at it!

sure, if you hide it just be sure to time how long it takes to fully purge then just do that amount of time (if not a little longer) everytime you purge and you should be good to go!

I haven't installed my kit yet. Can you visually tell when you're fully purged?

yep, when the gas flows constantly and there is no "gaps" in the purge.
The best purge comes when it's cool and damp (more humid). You'll know when you're purging nitrous :)

I got it installed today, I routed the purge to the wiper cowl blowing straight up. I was thinking about blowing down, or somewhere inconspicuous, but I had bad visions of a nitrous cloud finding it's way to my air filter while idling...

lol, yeah that wouldn't be too cool! I'm guilty of the cowl , that definately seems to be the most popular.

Something to keep in mind when installing a purge is to make sure if it isn't routed outside the car to make sure it isn't hitting any electronics when you purge. When I installed a kit on my Camaro before we bent the tubes to go out side the car we were testing it and couldn’t figure out why my ABS light was coming on after we would purge. As soon as we moved the outlet of the purge it stopped. The nitrous was hitting the sensor on the master cylinder causing it to act up.

LOL, Yeah, that crossed my mind also. But I've got the dump tube routed where it doesn't touch anything except the cowl. I actually managed to manhandle that tube to spray straight too!

If you also have an intercooler, would it work having it venting on it?

Most defiantly spray your purge on your intercooler. It will increase the efficiency of your intercooler and lower you air temps. They produce carbon dioxide spray bars that will basically do the same as purging onto your intercooler.

Purging on the intercooler is benefitial for cooling down the boost temps. Zex and NOS along with some other companies makes intercooler spray bars which are designed just for this type of purging. it covers a good size area of the intercooler to get maximum cooling. They rtail from between $100-200 depending on brand, quality, etc. I never had a setup like this so I cant recomend one over another but maybe someone else here might be able to?
