Instead of hitting the nitrous all at once, you can use one of these to ramp into it. for instance, a basic controller will let you set how much, in percentage, to start off with once activated. then, you set how long until 100% flow. this is helpful for retaining traction on launch and less stress on parts.

An important note on progressive controllers:
They cause the solenoids to turn on&off at such a high speed, it can burn out old solenoids or ones that are of lesser quality. Be sure to use good, high quality solenoids from a reputable company. One that stands behind their products and will rebuild them for free is a major plus. (And before someone says it-- yes, I understand that most of the solenoids out there come from the same manufacturer; peter paul. That does not change the fact that some are lower quality than others.)

The Maximizer is a nice progressive controller.
Check out racetested.com, for controllers and Pulsoids ( solonoids ) theres alot of very good information on there web page. There kits are definatly not the cheapest

ny-trex has a lifetime warranty on there solenoids... just as a note.

harris speedworks has a nice controller called the edge that has first gear lockout and a bunch of other stuff. last i checked they had removed it from the site because they were waiting on more PCMs to be made.

wiring a transbrake and a small delay??? My fault,I put the words in the wrong place. I already have the NOS CONTROLLER,I was won, ting to wire it say,,1.3or4 sec, than come on right after 60ft.20% of nitrous to 100% over the next 4sec,s. the diagram with it calls for the switch on the carb.to grd the wire. I am trying to decide what type of controller to go with. Not sure if I should go with a timed one or an rpm one like the jacobs mastermind. Say I go with the mastermind when I change gears the nitrous flow is going to drop if I say it should have 100% at 5000rpm and I am only turning 4500 right? Is there some way it can ramp up to 100% and stay there for the entire run or is this where I should just go with a timed controller? My only reason for using a controller will be to make it easier on the engine instead of one big hit.
I found these controllers on ebay. anyone ever used them?

Any nitrous progressive controller will let you go full bore after first gear, you just set the timer to be full on in second gear, by experimenting with the timer. You will usually be within a tenth of a second on each run when you shift into second gear.

I bought the cold fusion controller. only done dry runs and with fuel but it looks like it will work good. It does not have a lot of controls but it will do what I need.

I know this thread is old but I thought I'd update it with a little info. I have the FJO Mini Progressive Controller. It has a first gear lock-out feature so the system won't spray until you've shifted into second. This is an option in the software and doesn't have to be enabled. It also gives you the option to use either RPM based activation or time based. You can set the RPM upper threshold too so it will shut off the system if you exceed it and you won't be banging the rev-limiter. This is a very versitile controller and the only down side to it is that you need a computer to program it.

I have the old style one with 7 wires coming out of it. This one does not have the screws to hold in the wires......Does anyone have one of these and can tell me how they set theirs up?

If you need instructions follow the link. I'm guessing that you have a gen 1...

I'm looking into progressive controllers at this point, like many others, but I have some questions. Any help is appreciated.
1. Like the post above, I'm running a WOT microswitch setup... will this work with a Progressive Controller?
2. I have no doubt, that Ny-trex solenoids are top quality, but will they handle a Progressive Controller on my Triple Threat wet kit setup?
3. It seems like some brands are better for cars that only see the drag strip... is there anything out there for cars who just need to reduce some power in order to launch on spray instead of waiting until 1/3 of the way in second gear? Once I'm almost through second gear and into third the tires seem to have complete traction when spraying 100%, I'm just looking to engage some extra power in first gear without going to a two stage system.
4. Any brands to stay away from?
5. If you have a progressive controller, can you still use the nitrous normally say if I were rolling at 40mph on an interstate and raced up to 90mph and a closed course sort of deal? Or is the controller continously on and engaged meaning I would have to disconnect it in order to use my nitrous normally? (I'm not sure if this makes sense.)

1. Most PC's have a built in WOT switch.
2. That would be a question for Ny-trex.
3. Most good PC's have a wide range of adjusability. You'll be able to tweak it however you like.
4. If the price is crazy cheap, more than likely the product is too.
5. Yes, you can still do your little street racing thing. You can wire up the controller a number of different ways.
