nitrous setup

Hello I did some work on a my friends car and as I left he gave me a box with some parts in it.It had a small bottle, NOS Cheater Solenoid,line,nozzle,relay and switch so looks to be a dry system. Looked at some set- ups and noticed that some solenoids were mounted to the bottle and other set- ups had a line from the bottle to a solenoid. I was wonder why this is and what the proper way is to set it up. Also if some one could recommend a good book on nitrous that I could get some future information .
