i recently have been losing power. its a really big difference. i have posted about this. the story about me racing and my car reeking of clutch and the car feeling differnt after the race. i think im losing compression. i havent checked the compression yet. but my first gear feels a lil weaker. in my second gear when i hit 3k rpms the needle will drop back down to 2800 and very slowly rise up to w/e i want it to. in my 3rd gear, it will also do this but around 5k rpms. it will hit 5k and then drop down to about 4600 and will even slower this time rise back up. im pretty sure this is loss of compression. anyideas on whats wrong? could it be just a bad head gasket? or could there be a lot more that causes loss of compression?:dontgetit:
not sure what all you are running
But I had the same engine as you in my last car. A friend who also has the same car I had (wheew!) had a similar problem. The 2ZZ engine tends to lose compression from the #1 cylinder. I would do a leak down test (or have it done) just to check.
BTW,
there is a lot more that can cause loss of compression. It could be as simple as a spark plug not sealing. It could be a head gasket. IT could be piston rings. In the case of my buddy it was the rings. Well technically it was the cylinder wall and the rings not seating correctly as the cylinder wall wore down.
i just realized you might have a 1zz. but i bet most of the comments still hold. sorry.

thanks for your input. so basicly take it to a shop to have them determine what the problem is. nope i dont have a 1zz. i have a 2.2 5sfe. this engine has been reused a lot on toyotas history of cars... its in the 90-93 celicas, the 90-95 mr2 n/a, and the old 88-91 camrys. do u think after i get it fixed i should be able to start useing nitrious again?

bent or burned valve, cracked piston, head bolt failed, who know's, are you spraying this car? you need to check the compression first before anybody can offer up a fix, could even be ingnition failure for the loss of RPM, now go get your hand's dirty.

yes im spraying in this car, im useing a 40 shot, its a 2.2 litter engine, 5sfe that has 135 hp at the block. i didnt think a 40 shot would be hard on this engine. people say only spray 1/3 of ur engines power so i didnt think i would get owned. i also retarded the timing a lil so that it would be more on the safe side.

with all of the problem's you mentioned in your first thread, how's it run without the spray?
I think that if you check the compression (which is not expensive at all) and it turns out to be fine then you should be ok with the juice at 40hp.
If the compression is not fine, it could cost some moeny to get it fixed. who knows but a $1000 is not out of the question.
much past that point, you may want to pull out your kit and start looking at another car.

i feels weaker, my first gear still fells strong, but then agian what first gear isnt strong? the second gear i think i feel a difference, 3rd gear its very weak compared to before. i used to be able to drop to 3rd to stop and turn. not stop all the way of course. i did that yesterday out of force of habit and while pulling out of the turn the car shook violently from not enough gas, so now i have to turn in second gear.

ive thought about doing this too. if the repairs are too expensive, since my cars body is in good condition i could just sell it for 4g. i bought it for 3 g, got it painted, rims/tires, dry kit, twm short shifter, weapon r intake, custom exhaust. but if i did sell it. i was thinking aobut what car would i be able to get with only 4 g? i dont want a civic... and im a senior in highschool. i need a car for college. so hopefully. lets hope the repairs arnt going to be too expensive.

how's the oil consumption? if you check compression and it's within limit's for your car's engine type, I would then move on to ingnition or fuel problem's , you said the rpm drop's then try's to regain itself slowly, check your fuel pressure, it may be to low or maybe your fuel pump is failing or restricked, a change in plug color might show this to be true(leaning out momentarly under load) that's where I'd start, also check ex. for any restriction's s#*t happen's

sounds like a good start. thanks for all the input guys.
go to autotrader.com
You can do a search with your criteria. Remember, you should do a carfax search on any car you buy. it is well worth the cost unless you personally know the ENTIRE history of a car.
I found a pontiac firebird V6 with 10,000 miles ('97 i think) for less than 5k.
There are 17,000 others in the seach i did:
coupe and hatchbacks, under $5000, 1990-1999
results 17,000 cars
average price $3500
lowest price $100
