hey everyone. i just installed a dry kit running a 40 shot into my 91 celica gts. i love it. ive had it in for about 3 days now. and last night. i raced and i sprayed and is the main reason why im sitting at my computer at 3:10 am. can anyone help educate me on the do's and donts while spraying? i have a nos kit.... not very smart i dont think, i hear that zex is much safer because it has a brain thing. back to the story. when i race. i launch n/a, my engine is a 5sfe, with only 140hp at the crank. i rev up to 3 and drop the clutch, after i feel that my tires have caught traction, i kick my clutch twice to jump up on the rpms. by the end of that im near red line and i floor it and shift to second. after im in second gear i hit my switch and start spraying. im really noob to nitrious so when i do shift while spraying, i shift at 5900 (red line is at 6200) and i go very easy on the clutch. after the race my whole car reeks of burnt clutch.... im very afraid i have done something wrong. that up there ^^^ is exactly what i did in my race. im sorry about the long story and all the questions for my first post. please give me feedback asap

you dont wanna just dump the clutch on take off unless your running slicks what you want to do is slide the clutch out while taking off(i know its hard to understand) and you can shift at the same time just make sure to stop spraying while you are shifting and dont spray too early in the RPM range
oohh yea and welcome to the site

thanks man.
thats kinda hard for me, to stop spraying when i shift. because i dont have a kit that it throttle control (such as zex). should have invested in a zex kit.....damnit lol.
I think you should relook at your set up.
Here are a few notes that should help you have faster and more consistent times, increase reliability and thus reduce long term costs.
1) Save your clutch. Follow the previous posters advice. Remember when you "pump" the clutch, yes, your RPMs will jump up, but that is because you have removed the transmission from the engine. That means that you are (for a split second) not driving the rear wheels. You are bleeding away speed at that point. You would be better advised to find the right shift points for your car, and operate the clutch as the previous poster describes.
2) Is your kit push button activated? If so set the button to be pushed by the hand you use to shift (right if you are in the US, left if you are in UK). That way you are not on the juice when you hit the clutch. Otherwise you will smell burning clutch.
3) highly recommend you adjust your setup to include some method of ensuring you only boost at Wide open Throttle and not below 2500 RPMs.
later bro, and good luck.

just read your story again. Your clutch smell is because of your shifting technique (VERY BAD) and perhaps by being on the juice during your shift. But it is clutch smell.

thanks for the info, yeah its push button activated. its not throttle control. sounds like some good facts to keep in mind for the next time i spray.

use a mirco switch on the cluch ped. and wire it to the relay that turn's on you no2, that way your mind is on shifting and not holding a button, there's a great post in the black nos. test that you could use,

yeah, slow up on the clutch. it's a tiny disc with a pressure plate that doesn't have a lot of clamping force on it for mass production reasons. and welcome to the site.
