View Full Version : T-valve
it it possible to install a t valve in the line between the bottle and the nozzle? I was thinking that i would leave the bottle open most of the time and then when i needed to pass an RV on the highway, i could reach down and open the line. I have had very poor success with remote openers and I intend on having more than one bottle.
Thanks,
Trevor

Possible yes, how safe though is the question...
could you elaborate a little on the safety issue?
thanks,

what brand opener have you used in the passed? We have had excellent luck with the ny-trex openers, in fact you can leave them on until your battery goes dead with ot any damage to the solenoid. just wondering!

Does your bottle heater shut off at certain temp.? If not, you never know when you could forget it and the pressure be way up there. Point being how would you know how much pressure that "T" would stand up to?
the heater i have is pressure sensitive. You set the pressure to 950-1050 and when it is activated it runs automatically to keep the pressure wear you want it. I am not sure how it protects from overheating but it was not an issue when I had it on the car.
I figured that I would install the pressure sensor between the bottle and the T valve but in the cockpit nearer the valve. I am not sure how to tell if the valve would hold up to the pressure. 1000psi is a lot. Not sure yet how I would mount it. However, I am not tied to the T design, it could be a screw valve. Problem for me is there just isn't enough room in the cockpit for a 10lb bottle. I have another post outlining some ideas on how to sove that.
I had/have a NX remote opener but even after adjusting the clutch on it, I found it to be spotty at best in terms of reliably opening the bottle. Some times the motor would make noise but not enough power to reopen the bottle after it had closed. I forget now what the procedure was for the first use of the opener but the directions were pretty clear and I followed it exactly. It was alomst like the opener had more power on the closing motion than on the opening motion.
Ny-trex huh? why is it any different?
Thanks,
Trevor

I'm not a big fan of useing a t valve or a screw valve on the nitrous line. Both could cause a poor flow of nitrous that would cause a rich condition and surging. NOS had a similar device that they had out for a short time, it was an electric version of a ball or t valve, it caused flow problems and was removed from sale.:ops:
