Firstly i would like to hello because it is my first post which makes me a n00b to this forum...:) Hi!

Secondliy the reason why im here is because i compete in the PRODRIFT championship and for those of you in the USA that live in LA near Irwindale speedway you will have the pleasure of seeing a good friend of mine Darren McNamara in his own car against the best of Japan and the USA in the D1GP all star match this wkend. i heard he qualified 5th overall so he is obviously on top form as always!!

Anyway, i drive a Toyota Corolla AE86 myself with a 4age 16v on Throttle bodies and i am looking and getting some more power over the winter season. I really do not want to Turbo charge the car or do an engine swap as i love the revvy 1600 and the sound of ITBs is to die for at nearly 9000rpm!! :)

I know some jap drivers use NOS competitively and sucessfully in D1GP and they keep the 1600cc 4age on Throttle bodies...i think one driver has 70bhp NOS on wide open throttle...THAT REALLY APPEALS TO ME!!

Can anyone suggest a kit because excuse my ignorance i havnt a breeze onw hat application would be best for me! Wet, dry and i presume i will need 4 nozzles as opposed to 1or 2 since i dont have an inlet manifold as such with open throttle bodies??

Any help will be greatly appreciated. i could end up buying a kit myself and it would be useless to me or i could buy a super dooper kit and never get the full useof its ability as i only need small power increase in terms of what can be achieved from NOS.

Speak to you all soon,
Ian.

can i start of by saying nice car and a cool engine. :D
I don't know how well nitrous would work for drifting but i bet it would help if you needed to get a little more sideways lol
it would be fun if you used it for drifting or just on the street :D

i would think u would need a direct port nitrous system and probably instead of a button like in drag racing maybe a WOT switch would work pretty well but i don't know what u have for internals and if u have cast pistons rods etc. u wont be able to run much nitrous at all without worrying about breaking things i would recommend at the very least upgrading to forged pistons

and on a side note i was able to get my hands on a totaled 85 corolla hatch that had been built for drifting and had a motor with ITB's like u have and a header but those r the only major things the guy put on the motor but he had also had a full suspension on it and a limited slip differential and we were able to sell the suspension exhaust and lsd for around $500 and seeing as we got the car for free we made a heck of a profit and we haven't even sold the motor or header yet

we have worked and spoke with alot of guys on the drifting scene. the n2o issue was first introduced to me by j.r. gitten who pilots the falken 05 mustang. most of the guys that using n2o are running a turbo and use it to get around the turbo lag. they use a hob switch which is an on/off switch that is activated or rather de-activated by boost. the n/a guys have mentioned that it does take a little bit of getting used to because of the initial hit. one way to solve this is by using a progressive controller to create a more linear activation of the nitrous. but it can definitely be done and has been done. feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!

Is the sport of Drifting still quite large in America? Or should I say corporate America?

well it had started out as a way for tire manufacturers to advertise their product but it is definitely growing at the grassroots level. we sell alot of Percy's Speedglass window kits to drifters and we have seen a surge in the potential for this market. I am a drag racer at heart and always will be, but if I can help someone make power for sliding around a corner (and we all love to power slide now and then) then so be it!

Hi guys,

just read through the comments left now....Thanks for the compliments on the car and engine. its a rebvuilt 4age 16v and has 180bhp as it sits now. not a whole lot in drag racing i know but in drifting it is a potent weapon as it only weigh 800kgs and is geared to spin the rear wheels up good.

On a more important note, i would like to thank Josh at NX Nitrous Xpress for sponsoring me a Direct Port Nitrous kit for my car. It will have 3 jets for 50,70 and 100bhp to use at my own leasure. personally speaking i think the 50 will be fine and the 70bhp boost will be awesome! 240bhp cars like mine are very fast and awesome drift cars. Needless to say i think someone was correct in suggesting a Direct Port kit with a WOT solenoid. thats exactly what i have been sponsored.

I will post up my results and some shots for you when i have it installed. Im all excited like a little boy at xmas now...haha.

Cheers,
Ian.

P.S: Drifting has grown quite a bit and you are correct it has progressed from grassroots level now. There was a all star exhibition held in Irwindale raceway last wkend with Jap,USA,malaysian,NZ and Ireland and UK drivers attending. it was a huge event and my friend Darren finished 5th overall against the worlds best drifters....quite a remarkable result.
