hi everyone.
im new to n20 and love it. im currently building a new 393ci cleveland with all the good gear (steel crank, h beams, srp forged pistons, grout filled, studded bottom end, 11.9:1 comp) and i was wondering what sort of prep work i will require for my heads and what sort of cam to use.
the current heads are 52cc chamber, 2v (aussie) cast items with 2.1 in & 1.72 ex valves. the heads flowed 520 hp on a superflow flow bench, the exhaust flowed 78%.
the cam i have is a solid flat tappet. 252/258, 584/614 @ .050.

i run a nos cheater system and have plans for a big shot system.

the car is for drag racing only and weighs 3000lb.

any ideas would be great.

regards, justin.

alot of horsepower can be yielded from a good set of heads. the one thing you would want to consider is going with a really good set of aluminum cylinder heads. they usually have better castings and can produce better horsepower. keep in mind the heads have to flow better then the horsepower they are producing. bigger valves and runners will post better numbers on nitrous. if the heads are just enough for the motor alone they will hinder the perfomance of the nitrous. i know with bigger heads on motor you may lose a little power but it's better then limitng the motor on the squeeze. as far as cam selection goes you should talk to a cam manufacturer, they will ask you alot of specific information about your car ( car weight, motor displacement, amount of nitrous, size of heads, tranny, converter stall, exhaust size, etc.) all of which will help them help you make the proper cam selection, possibly a custom grind. also a good thing to keep in mind, your exhaust size! alot of times your exhaust can restrict the power if it is to small. Flowmaster recomends dual 3" for up to 500hp and 3.5" for up to 700hp. find out where your car best fits and there you are! Also this is important! make sure you use ARP head studs and a good set of gaskets (Cometic multilayer metal is a favorite of mine). now some people will say this is over kill, i say build it once build it right and enjoy the spoils of watching other leave the track early!
