Okay so here's the car
72 Camaro, 4speed muncie, lightly moded 350 (preformer intake, rv cam, holley street avenger carb, headers, msd dig 6) i want to start running nitrous on the car, it is mostly a street/strip car, and will soon be getting a 383 stroker.

My question is which setup should i go with, i have been looking at the NOS big shot or the edelbrock preformer, they seem to be compariable except the edelbrock seems to be cheaper, im planning on hooking it to my msd dig-6 box and seting the timing retard about 3deg and starting w/ a 75 shot. I think im gonna go with the edelbrock preformer (later upgrading to the preformer rpm once i build the 383) setup (because of price), and also getting a remote bottle opener. Soes this sound like a good choice or is there another system i should go with, and if so why? since im driving a 4 speed do i just bury the throttle and clutch/shift with the throttle down and n20 runnin, also what is the benifit of the purge system and do i need it, anything else i need to know and any other tips you have with setups would be great, thanks for your help, im here to learn

The Big Shot is bit on the large side. It is only adjustable from about 150-175 up to about 350-400. The better NOS kit would be a Cheater kit which can go from 50-250hp and then latter if you did want to go above 250 you could get the Big Shot upgrade kit. The Edelbrock Performer would probably be a good option as well. A purge is to allow liquid nitrous to get up to the solenoid so there is less of delay when the nitrous is activated. You also want to make sure the fuel system is up to the task. A mechanical pump may be adequate for smaller set ups, under 125hp but an electric pump is a much better option.

okay so i'd be good goin with the edelbrock preformer kit, and then later once i build up the engine i can upgrade the N20 system and my fuel system to the preformer rpm, i think thats what im gonna do, thanks, im shure i'll have a lot more questions, and as far as using it with the manual transmission, again its pretty much just bury the throttle and keep it down while clutching and shifting, right?

if you plan on upgrading at a later point, then go with the big shot kit. you can always buy jets to go lower than what the kit supplies to start off with. why buy twice?

you'll still want to lift the gas pedal when shifting. leaving the nitrous on and power shifting, you might end up over revving the motor.

purging helps to get liquid nitrous to the solenoid for more consistent and harder hits on lauch. helps to eliminate bogging associated with the delay of liquid nitrous getting to the plate.

You can also pick up a window switch from msd that will work in conjunction with your msd6al The window switch allows you to keep the throttle down while shifting and when a certain rpm is reached it will close the n2o and fuel solenoids in case you overrev. Then it will kick back on again when you are back to your operating rpm range. pretty trick, and really a must have for a manual with spray :D

okay great guys thanks for helping a new guy out, i ended up ordering the edelbrock preformer kit, it should be here on fri :) got a great price on it too, (i have re-built half my camaro at a local hotrod checker so the manager gave me $100 off summit's price on the kit, checker ROCKS!!!) thanks speedtweekerz for the advise on the remote on off, if i dont get this one off e-bay i'll definatly be giving you a call, also i have a NX purge kit coming

can i turn this

into a dual spray by replacing the 90deg brass eblow with a t-elbow and running dual lines, i think it'll work, and i should have enough parts around here to do it (i've been a paintball tech for about 12 years now)
