The wife and I decided to pull the monte off the street. It is no fun to drive, loud, obnoxious, and scary. I started removing some more parts in my weightloss quests, and fabbed up some frames for plexi/lexan windows.
Here are some pics....

I also pulled the side mirrors and door locks, welded the holes closed. strippe the inside door of the crash bars and relocated the inside door handles. I'll try to get some of those pics up soon.

on another note your looking to save a little weight , I just recived my new tubler lower A arm's for the new ride and they sent me the upper's also( don't need them for the new car it will have F body spindel's and strange 10 way strut's and coil over's) there chrome moly with limiter's, ball joint's and alum. cross shaft with heim's still wrapped in the bubble wrap.
I'll take $300. the whole set of 4 was like $875 and I only need the lower's

Not sure yet. I haven't been able to make a clean full pass due to transmission failures...lol. The best it has been is 10.9 @ 124 w/ a **** trans. New th400 is in, T-brake, 4000 stall.
I'm only running a 150 on it atm. I'll up it when I get the rest of the set up corrected. Here's a vid of the last pass I made w/ it back in august

At this rate it seems like I'll never get the bugs out:dunno: I now have to get some new front springs The nose has risen considerably since the weightloss project started. I have already cut the stock springs once, so I'm thinking about trick springs this time around. It just never ends LOL

Thanks matt, I really want to try out those trick spings though. One of the last trips out the car started to yank the wheels and pulled to the left(actually I think my sig pic is a still of that pass as they started to go up). I almost **** my pants and lifted completely. I got back in it and still beat up the stang in the other lane :) . Yeah no head lights or front markers so I'm guessing it is NO-MO street. I really want to put it on the bumper, if I can keep my nuts intact long enough to stay in it. I also threw on The rebuilt older dominator. I'm hoping I can get it settled down. She doesn't want to idle below 1500. Nothing but problems :dunno:

I don't have much of a problem with the stang's !!
crank them front limiter's down and don't let the front end rise to much (maybe 2'' lift total) and it may help keep the front down. it helped a little with mine but you have a little more weight up front than me. the trick spring's are cool but good shock's would be better $$$ spent.

Hmm, I'm running cheapie Comp Engineering adj.'s 90/10 up front and 50/50 rear. I'm just afraid I would have to cut too much off the stock spring to get it into the ride height I'm looking for. The center line in my nose cover was 4" off the ground when I cut the stock springs. Since I have started the weight-loss the same spot measures 10" off the ground. I have already taken 1 full coil of the stockers, You think I could safely go more? Or would I be better off w/ a new trick spring? The shocks only have a handful of passes on them so they should be fine. My last full pass w/ the **** trans netted a 1.5 60' ,
I'm thinking I should be around a low 1.4 to a high 1.3. What do ya think? Wow , We are getting off topic here, but who cares it is my post :) lol

You know me better than that matt. I could give a **** if my posts run off topic, or get hijacked.
I hear what ya saying about your ALL STEEL wagon as well. I don't have the motor to do that though. So I have to cut, cut, chop, drill, hack off what ever weight I can. I'm dropping this ***** below 3000lbs. ! When I blow this one up I'll do a minimum 540 build(maybe higher depending on the budget at the time).
In the mean time the weight loss quest continues. I picked this up today. I traded some glass work for it. I always wanted one but could never justify the $300 bills to get one. Ya like?

You take anything off your doors yet? The crash bar was about 21lbs. , The door glass and regulator was heavy another 25 lbs. easy. Plus all the track and hardware, That **** adds up quick, and thats just one side. My front bumper support and struts was 35 lbs. The headlight assembly and brackets and the front air damn was over 30 lbs. Like I stated earlier my front nose has lifted 6" from weightloss alone. Thats w/ a big block on a stock spring w/ one full coil already cut off. There is a guy on montess.com that got his car down to 2880 I think? 28-something . He is running a cage and a small block(track only car), so if I can get around 3k I'll be happy. I have my work cut out for me w/ a big block T-roof car, but I'm giving it one helluva fight :)
JAMZ87SS
04-10-2008, 04:35 PM
The only real weight left on the nose that I have to work on is the manual brake swap(That booster has to be heavy), and pulling the factory brake dust shields. I'm not going w/ light weight brakes, they are just too much damn coin! My demented mind is working on a light weight lexan T-roof. I own a glass shop so everything would be at cost, and I may be able to make some money in the process if it comes out nice enough.

do you go to the yellowbullet? if so there is a post there titled "front frame rail" check it out it's very cool (also what I'm doing) could save you a ton of weight. and there is a Co. on malibu.com that sell's the bracket to convert to manual brake's, I bought one work's Fu...in great.

Well I haven't fixed the weld on the main hoop yet but I will. I welded the outer plates in the back wheel wells to the frame. The inner plates on the bottom of the down bars will bolt to them through the floor. It's legal that way. It's work in progress.

Yes I know you feel my pain. I thought it would be a good idea to tack it in place and remove for the final welding. I welded one down bar and put back in to check the fit. The damn thing pulled in about 1/2". I even tryed to weld opposing sides to prevent it. Oh well. Murphy bit me in the Ass again! I won't even get started on friggin Bill Gates and Windows XP!

I usually get shrinkage up to a 1/2" after a swim in the pool. A warm shower usually gets everything back to size. :roll1:

Yagyū Shinkage-ryū (柳生新陰流, Yagyū Shinkage-ryū?) is one of the oldest Japanese schools of swordsmanship (kenjutsu). Its primary founder was Kamiizumi Nobutsuna, who called the school Shinkage-ryū. In 1565, Nobutsuna bequeathed the school to his greatest student, Yagyū Muneyoshi, who added his own name to the school. Today, the Yagyū Shinkage-ryū remains one of the most renowned schools of Japanese swordsmanship. Its name roughly means Yagyū New Shadow School

He also swapped out his aluminum radiator for a stock parts house rad. He said the aluminum job wasn't cutting it on cooling it in traffic. He gave me that for free :) I'll post up some pics if I can get it installed w/ my dual electric fans. He wants to swap his front wildwood racing front disks w/ my stockers. I'm not sure they'll swap out though? 87 g-body and a 66 a-body? anyone know? I'd be swapping the whole spindle and brake assembly.

A body spindel's should work, they are a little longer which alow's for a larger rotor to be installed.
it is a common swap for the older A body's like the 77/78 montie's to a G body like I said above, you may need to adjust your upper control arm to accept it.
the spindel is a little smaller though which is'nt a real big deal just lighter bearing's.
you should go for it, while your waiting for that new trannie!!!

I'm getting his trans, I just have to buy him the 5-speed. He'll handle the clutch and pedals. I'm definately making out on this whole deal. I'm wondering what I'd have to do to the control arms? I'm running Speedway tubular uppers, and I aligned it on a 4 corner machine w/ the front end raised up on a jack. one of the arms has no shims at all to play with. I'm pretty sure the car took a whack at some point in its life.
ONE MORE PAGE AND THIS MAY BE THE LONGEST THREAD? , ALREADY AS LONG AS THE STARS, JUST NOT AS MUCH FUN !

Hey matt , I'm thinking bout ditching this old 4500 and spacer/adapter. I'm thinking a holley 950 should be ok . I actually like the QF 950 drag carb, but i may end up piecing together (as money allows) a carb of my own. I should be ok w/ the new bowls and other parts i bought for the 4500, but Would the 4500 metering blocks work on a 4150 mainbody?
hammered54

being that the new spindel's are longer (space between the ball joint's) you would be moving the upper control arm in. (more shim's) so I would think you'd be o.k. there.
I going a little diff in this area, because I have the roll bar's going to the front frame rail's I'll be using Fbody spindle's with strange fox body strut's w/ coil over's and elim. the upper control arm's alltogether.

don't bother! buy the proform carb it's made by Quickfuel but a least 200 buck's cheaper (and is purple instead of red) just put two 850's on my car earler this year.
all of the part's for the Quickfuel carb's i.e. body, plate's, bowl's (4500 bowl's by the way) are proform part's, and the carb's are assembled for proform by "Quickfuel" so go figure which one is better. same carb!!!
sorry only about 150.00 cheaper

I need one more bracket to make. I have to mount the seat to the main hoop of the bar(aftermarket seat-NHRA rules... blah blah blah) . I used the last of my flat aluminum bar stock on the front nose support. I have enough roll bar and flat steel to make a mount. SOOOO you guys know I'm a cheap bastard and Also obsessive about the whole weight game!!!! Do I wait until I pick up some more light :) aluminum bar stock to make a bracket or just make it out of the steel I have? If I use the steel I'm gonna have to find somewhere else to pull the weight difference from.

OK! Now all this weight talk has sparked the beast again!!!!!!!! Hear me out..
I want to pull the rear bumper and rear bumper struts. The bumper it self is aluminum (no big deal), The struts are heavy steel **** filled w/ liquid. I'm worried about the urethane bumper cover flaring out in the center during a pass and ****ing up the airflow under the car. Is this a legit concern? Or just say screw it and pull the whole assembly? I already put a piece of roll bar between the rear frame rails to tie the whole **** together. I could always put in an aluminum strap to hold the cover if needed. Whaddaya think? Pull it, ya or na? Damn this weight bug is eating me up!!!!

I've missed this thread!! LOL, The sad part is so much shi...stuff that I have been wanting to do , but haven't. I still haven't made that bracket for the seat. I'd better get my arse in gear if I want to pass tech. I also never even touched the back bumper. It is still stock(except the hole for the on/off switch. Ahh well, @ least I got to laugh my ass off re-reading this thread:dunno:
