This is my current setup.. It gets a little annoying going to the trunk to open and close the bottle all the time.. I would rather not spend the money on a remote bottle opener. So I was thinking of mounting the bottle behind the passenger seat. If I keep the bottle at least half full would I have issues with starvation because, of it being mounted sideways?

I wouldn't think you'd have an issue as long as you kept it half full. But I would leave it in the trunk.

A few years ago when my buddy was trying to fit his 15lb bottle into the trunk his Z06, he found the only way to make it would be mounting it sideways. He called NOS, and they said, that would would be fine as long as you rotate the bottle to about 45° and still keep the head end higher. It's as badgerlike said, it keeps the N2O at the pick up tube even when accelerating and you can then run it to empty. If your really picky, you could, with an empty bottle, take the valve off the head and rotate the pick up tube inside the bottle. that way the valve/head remain in stock position and thus a cleaner install.

Any tips on rotating the pickup tube Robert? My 10# fitted just nice until I put a remote opener on it and now it wont fit.
Is it a case of just clamping the bottle with a strap wrench and undoing the neck?
How is the pickup tube attached?
Cheers

I don't have any pics handy of the tube out of the bottle. there are variations per manufacture. the main thing, and I am sure you know this but will say it anyway for those reading along, EMPTY THE BOTTLE BEFORE ATTEMPTING REMOVAL OF THE VALVE. I don't have any specifics for you, but your on the right track with a strap wrench to protect the valve and bottle. I know it can be a real pain for some to get this apart. Once apart just looking at it will likely tell how to further disassemble. maybe someone reading along has some pics and or specific how to? if you do get this figured out and proceed this would be a great how-to to add to the growing list of how-to's in that section on the home page. you could include the info on why, and then the process, if you like that is. write ups like this are what will make this site very valuable to all the end users. :D

Will do Robert.
You may want to move this post, totally up to you.
As some of you know the boot in the MX5 is tiny, a real squeeze to get a 10lb bottle in there at the best of times.
So a month ago I custom made some mounting brackets and it just fitted :)
The problem arose when I brought an auto bottle opener. I ment when I went to fit the bottle .... well lets just say there was a bit of swearing
Solution:
Spin the bottle through 90*
Problem:
The bottles have a syphon tube so they can pickup the liquid. If I just spun the bottle I would at best only be able to use 1/2 of the 10lb before it started picking up gas (not liquid) :(
Solution:
Crack the top off the bottle and spin the syphon tube the opposite way.
Problem:
I expected it to be really tight and hard to get off. People kindly suggested wrapping the bottle in wet towels and getting a beefy mate to sit on it.
Solution:
Take one $30 rattle gun and a 1 3/8" socket and give it to it.
The results :D

That was how i did the 15lb bottle in my Vette. I made sure the bottle was at greater than a 30 degrree rise and the siphon tube was oriented correctly. Never had a problem down to 3.5lbs remaining or so.

I agree that worked good for me too.
invest in a remote bottle opener
Why not leave it open all the time? :wink_smilie:
