Howdy all Forumites,

I've spent the last 3 days trawling the forum picking up snippits here and there, learning along the way.

Full cred to you all as this forum seems very informative and friendly, esp for n00bs, like me.

As the title says I'm from Australia (Victoria) and although I fitted a Mavin Miller kit to a 307ci back in the 70's and have been in the rod/drag scene for 35 years, I've resisted the temptation to get on the gas.

However, a few years ago we decided that a highly strung 4 cyl would make for an interesting project and have been putting all our spare cash into the, as you'd know it, Miata.

Currently, (well before the latest rebuild) we were pulling 235 kW (315 HP), but it still wasn't "quick" hence the new configuration.

Although at the moment the whole country has stopped for Christmas, we intend to get on the gas reasonably soon. This site is a great wealth of info that will be very benificial I'm sure.

Man I waffle on sometimes, sorry about the long intro post but I felt I should introduce myself rather than just use all the bandwidth

Cheers

Barry

Thanks for the greetings everyone.
Unfortunately Justin I'm not really one for photos but here are a few of the beast in street form (2 years ago). I've taken a few of the most recent running gear transplant at different stages and should really put them on a site to record the history .... ah what the heck I'd much rather be building it

It's currently street registered  but at 315 HP was only a dry weather car and really heavy on fuel/tyres etc

Now we are targeting 450 kW (600 HP) it's very unlikely to see the road, only the track at sub 10's :naughty:

Now lets see if these pics work .......

Welcome! very cool setup you have there, how much boost are you running in that?

its cool to see a miata without a ford v8 in it for a change, all of the drag miatas around here all have v8s.

Full cred to the guys that can squeeze a big V8 into this tiny engine bay. :eeek: I've got no idea how they do it.

We did contemplate an 8 but if we can get close to the same power from a four with the reduced weight we figure we're in front. May not last as long, but rebuilds are an easy way of convincing the good wife that new mods need to be done :D

In the previous setup (315 HP) we were running 28 lb from a GT28R which is good from a snail rated at 320 HP. With the new setup (GT31) we expect to run between 24 - 28 lb to get us to 450 HP then gas to bring on the kick to 600.

Fingers crossed it all holds together.

Cheers

HaHaHa .... Hopefully it won't be a brown trousers time. Whats the worst that can happen .... ventalated block ????

This build was the result of a wayward rod, but we have gone for Argo rods with this one which are good for about 100 HP more than we want.

Thanks guys

Hey I'd love to go HTH with the rotor, seen, read and heard lots of good things about it. Actually I was going to buy the Commie IRS setup he had for sale but decided on the giggle gas instead.

As I'll be at Vic Supercruz (Calder Park) the weekend before Heathcote and the car won't be ready for that, I'm sure it wont be ready for Summer Slam either. I will try to get there though.

The 1st official meet for the new car I'm hoping will be the National Bracket Championships on the 23rd of Feb. Fingers crossed all goes to plan (the ECU hasn't arrived yet :crybaby:).

Are you coming down to Melbourne for Slam ? Long drive but would be cool ..... road trip :wink_smilie:

yeah making the trip down - along with a turbo sp23 (before the mps3 came out). you'll have to make the trip up for jamboree in august!

Ahhh the SP's great package with loads of potential. The treasurer has a MPS3 but she won't let me touch it, likes it just the way it is.

I've heard the jamboree is a good gig, however August is a bad time of year for me, so unfortunately can't make it (this year anyway).

We have a busy two months here in Melbourne with Bracket championships, summer slam and the Vicsupercruz. Just p155ed of that my car won't be ready for any of them :sad1:

I'll come looking for the SP at slam
